MISSION

Detroit Catholic Campus Ministry exists for the students at Wayne State University, University of Michigan-Dearborn and the surrounding campuses as a place to encounter Jesus Christ, to grow as disciples and to be sent out to witness to Him on campus and throughout their lives.
ABOUT DETROIT CATHOLIC CAMPUS MINISTRY
- For many years, there has been a presence of Catholic campus ministry at Wayne State University and University of Michigan-Dearborn. Detroit Catholic Campus Ministry seeks to continue this good work and look ahead to how we can continue to do so in new and exciting ways. Since 2021, the previously separate campus ministry programs at each campus are now united as Detroit Catholic Campus Ministry to better serve both campuses while also being more accessible to the other local colleges and universities. It is one program at two locations.
  
  Our campus ministry program exists to evangelize college students so that they might know the salvation offered in Christ to each one of them through the Church that Jesus has founded. We also seek to be an epicenter for Catholic cultural renewal so that students might more fully discover the beauty of the Catholic life through experiencing joyful community life while also engaging with the intellectual tradition of the Church.

MEET OUR TEAM
- Fr. MattHew Hood
  Chaplain
  
  Fr. Matthew Hood is the chaplain of Detroit Catholic Campus Ministry. He graduated from Sacred Heart Major Seminary with a M.Div. and a S.T.B. in Theology. He grew up in Oakland Township, MI. and has a twin brother. He entered seminary after falling in love with Jesus in the Eucharist and desiring to share that gift with the world.

- VICTOR FENIK
  FOCUS MISSIONARY
  
  Victor Fenik is a second-year missionary from Plain City, Ohio. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Finance. FOCUS had a huge impact on him during his reversion in college. Victor became convinced that there needs to be more good men on the college campus! When he answered the call to serve as a missionary, FOCUS seemed like the best natural fit.

- Juliana sherwin

  Juliana is a sophomore at Wayne State University. She is from Northville, MI and is an intern because of her love for our community. She hopes to help others grow in their faith as she has during her time at DCCM. She loves to watch and play golf- Juliana has been golfing since she was four! She was also a swimmer for 14 years, officially retiring last November. She is also a citizen of Italy!

  Anna Picasso is the Campus Ministry Outreach Coordinator for DCCM. She's from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and graduated from the University of Mary with a B.S in Media Production Communication. It was there Anna had a reconversion to her faith and said yes to mission with the Lord through FOCUS. After serving on the FOCUS Detroit team for two years, she felt called to stay and continue serving the students of Detroit. She loves art, exploring new coffeeshops & music.

- Jessica Castro
  FOCUS MIssionary
  
  Jessica Castro is a second-year FOCUS missionary in Detroit! She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a degree in Human Biology and Society. After graduating, she worked full-time as a clinical research assistant for two years, but answered the call to pursue full-time mission with FOCUS after attending SEEK post-graduation and serving in youth and young adult ministry at her home parish. She is from Santa Clarita, CA and is excited to experience four seasons for the first time and bring Christ to college students!

- Harrison Cole
  DCCM Student intern
  
  Harrison is a senior at Wayne State University. He is from Saginaw, MI and is an intern to help others grow in their faith through DCCM, which has been amazing for his reversion. He wants others to experience the community, events & opportunities to grow. Harrison likes to play video games, cook, writing, and science fiction- especially Star Trek. He reads and studies politics & history. He can also speak a little German!

  FOCUS TEAM DIRECTOR
  
  Kyle Skoumal is a fifth-year missionary here in Detroit and our FOCUS Team Director! He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Nonprofit Management. He grew up in Marion, IA and has a passion for discussing Marvel movies and his Catholic faith. He became a missionary to proclaim the Good News that changed his life when he was in college!

- Nataleigh liddy
  
  Nataleigh Liddy is a first-year FOCUS missionary from St. Charles, Missouri. She graduated from Lindenwood University with a degree in Fashion Business. Nataleigh said yes to FOCUS because as a student, it helped her relationship with the Lord grow so much. She desires to help change students' lives in the same way. Her hobbies include thrifting, coffee dates, traveling, going to concerts, hiking and reading.

  Alyssa is a junior at Wayne State University. She is from Fraser, MI and an intern at DCCM because the mission has strengthened her relationship with God. The community welcomed her with love and she hopes to serve as that presence for incoming students, bringing them closer to Christ! In her free time, she loves to dance, explore different cafes and hang out with friends. Alyssa has an identical twin and studied Japanese for four years!
